Custom Google Maps styles with Snazzy Maps

Snazzy Maps is a free community repository of thousands of Google Maps style presets. With WP Google Street View Pro, you can apply any of these styles to your map embeds in seconds.

What are map styles?

Map styles change the visual appearance of Google Maps: road colors, water tones, label visibility, landscape shading, and more. A custom style lets you match the map to your brand's color palette, or simply create a cleaner, less cluttered look.

Step-by-step guide

1. Browse Snazzy Maps

Go to snazzymaps.com and browse the style gallery. You can filter by color, tags (minimal, dark, light, retro, etc.), and popularity.

2. Copy the JSON

When you find a style you like, click on it and look for the JSON or JavaScript Style Array. Copy the entire JSON array (it starts with [ and ends with ]).

3. Apply in WP Google Street View

  1. Edit your WPGSV map entry in WordPress
  2. Go to the Styles tab
  3. Select Custom Map Styles (the last option)
  4. Paste the JSON into the textarea
  5. Click the Preview button to see the result
  6. Save

4. Verify on the front end

Visit the page where the map is embedded and verify the style looks correct. Clear your cache if you see the old style.

StyleBest for
Ultra Light / MinimalCorporate sites, portfolios, professional services
Dark / MonochromeReal estate, luxury brands, creative agencies
Retro / VintageTourism, artisan businesses, heritage sites
Colorful / VibrantEntertainment, children's services, tourism
Subtle / MutedHealthcare, legal, financial services

Tips

  • Keep the style consistent with your website's color scheme
  • Avoid overly complex styles that hide useful landmarks
  • Test on mobile — some styles with very low contrast can be hard to read on small screens
  • The style only affects the Google Maps panel, not Street View imagery
