Google Maps API pricing in 2026
Google Maps Platform pricing can seem intimidating at first glance. This article breaks it down clearly.
The $200/month free credit
Every Google Cloud account with Maps Platform enabled receives $200 in free credits per month. This is not a trial — it is an ongoing, permanent benefit. It renews monthly and does not accumulate.
What $200 gets you
| API | Cost/1 000 calls | Free calls/month |
|---|---|---|
| Maps JavaScript (Dynamic Maps) | $7.00 | ~28 500 |
| Street View Static Images | $7.00 | ~28 500 |
| Places Autocomplete (per session) | $17.00 | ~11 700 |
| Geocoding | $5.00 | ~40 000 |
For WP Google Street View, the primary API is Maps JavaScript. Each time a page with a map loads, it counts as one map load. At $7 per 1 000 loads, you get approximately 28 500 free map loads per month.
Do I need to worry about costs?
For most WordPress websites: no. A site would need over 28 500 map-containing pageviews per month to exceed the free credit. That is roughly 950 map loads per day.
Budget protection
Set up a budget alert in Google Cloud Console to get notified before you exceed any threshold. You can also set a spending cap to hard-limit your monthly spend.
