Troubleshooting

Solutions for the most common issues with WP Google Street View.

Map shows a grey box or does not load

Cause: Missing or invalid API key. Fix: Go to WP Google Street View → Settings and verify your API key. Test it by opening the Google Cloud Console and checking the API dashboard for errors.

"For development purposes only" watermark

Cause: Billing is not enabled on your Google Cloud project. Fix: Enable billing on the project associated with your API key.

"ApiNotActivatedMapError" in the browser console

Cause: One or more required APIs are not enabled. Fix: Enable all four APIs.

"RefererNotAllowedMapError"

Cause: Your API key's HTTP referrer restriction does not match your domain. Fix: In the Google Cloud Console, edit your API key and add your domain to the referrer list.

"API keys with referer restrictions cannot be used with this API"

Cause: Older admin scripts could call a Google Maps Web Service endpoint directly from the browser. That endpoint is not compatible with HTTP referrer-restricted keys. Fix: Update to WP Google Street View 1.1.13 or later. The admin lookup now uses the Google Maps JavaScript geocoder path, which is compatible with the normal browser key setup documented in this guide. Clear admin/browser cache after updating.

Map loads on the admin preview but not on the front end

Cause: A caching plugin is interfering. See Caching compatibility. Fix: Clear all caches and exclude the Google Maps script from JavaScript optimization.

Street View shows a blank panorama

Cause: No Street View coverage exists at the specified coordinates. Fix: Verify coverage by visiting Google Maps and dropping the Pegman on the location.

Multiple maps on one page — only the first renders

Cause: This issue was fixed in version 1.1.3. Update to the latest version.
